("Inland") applied June 18, 1987, pursuant to Section 61 of the utilities Commission Act (lithe Act") for an Order of the British Columbia utilities Commission (lithe Commission") approving the acquisition by Inland from Superior Propane Inc. of a reviewable interest of Squamish Gas Co. Ltd. ("Squamish"), being 100% of the voting shares of Squamish; and WHEREAS the Application by Inland stated "If the Utilities Commission grants the Order sought hereunder Inland proposes to cause Squamish Gas to purchase from Superior all of the assets of Granisle Grid Sytern ("Granisle Grid") and to hold and operate such assets as a separate regulatory unit within Squamish Gas"; and WHEREAS in Tab 4 of Inland's Application a Statement of Preliminary Plans for Squamish Gas Co. Ltd. and Granisle Grid states: "Inland's primary focus in acquiring gas distribution properties is to bring the following benefits to the acquired utility: ... /2 -E~.[\
2 to expand the existing facilities to make service available to all potential consumers; to reduce rates paid by consumers to the lowest possible level consistent with a reasonable level of service; to improve the level of service; to bring the most efficient and safety-oriented operating methods to the utilities; to provide administrative and personnel support to the employees of the utilities; to make available to the utilities Inland's industrial development and community support services."; and WHEREAS Section 61(8) of the Act states: "The commission may give its approval under this section subject to conditions and requirements it considers necessary or desirable in the public interest, but the commission shall not give its approval under this section unless it considers that the public utility and the users of the service of the public utility will not be detrimentally affected."; and WHEREAS the Commission concludes that general interest and public interest require the Application to be heard in public forum. NOW THEREFORE the commission orders: 1. That the Inland Application be set for public hearing commencing at 9:00 a.m. local time on Thursday, November 19, 1987 at the Chieftain Hotel Ltd., 3239 Cleveland, Squamish, B.C. 2. That Inland Natural Gas Co. Ltd. arrange for publication of a Notice of Public Hearing in one issue only of an appropriate publication covering the service areas of Sguamish Gas and the Granisle Grid. 3.
